Rashad, 17, from Brooklyn, New York lives with her parents and younger sister in a brownstone in Brooklyn. Her mother is a Marketing professor at New York University and her Jamaican father, Devon, is a registered nurse at Beekman Hospital in Manhattan. Rashad's dream is to become a poet however her father wants her to become a doctor. Throughout the film Rashad applies to art school behind her father's back. However, this dilemma isn't the only one she faces. She must also find herself. Will Rashad be able to find herself in time to stand up to her father or will she end up being the medical student her father wants her to be?
